BACKGROUND<\/h2>\n\n

School was in session at D.B. Stukey Elementary, and the road leading there was badly deteriorated from the corrosion of two underground corrugated metal pipes (CMPs). The city of Northglenn needed to act fast. Digging up and replacing the twin CMPs was too costly, both for the city and for the drivers who depended on using that road every day. <\/p>\n\n

One of the existing culverts was originally an 84-inch CMP. The pipe deteriorated extensively over time, resulting in massive deflection and a severe dip in the road above. At some points in the pipe the diameter was as low as 60 inches \u2013 24 inches less than the original installation. <\/p>\n\n

\u201cGrant Street [the affected roadway] is one of the only ways to access the neighborhood and school,\u201d said Snap-Tite representative Russ Wosk. \u201cSince school had recently started, repairs needed to be made without digging up the road.\u201d <\/p>\n\n

Snap-Tite offered the solution.<\/p>\n\n

WHY Snap-Tite\u00ae?<\/h2>\n\n

The city needed to fix the corroded and collapsing twin 84-inch CMPs. And they needed to do it quickly, in the most cost-effective and least disruptive means available. Snap-Tite HDPE pipe was the clear choice. <\/p>\n\n

Wosk worked with the city and Danny Branning, of C&L Water Solutions, to rehabilitate the failing culvert with 54-inch diameter Snap-Tite in 24-foot lengths. Due to Snap-Tite\u2019s superior flow characteristics, the decrease in diameter was not an issue. <\/p>\n\n

The Installation<\/h2>\n\n

Branning and his crew completed slip-lining the 54-inch Snap-Tite liner, from start to finish, in one day. Annular grouting between the failing CMP and the 54-inch Snap-Tite liner was also completed in a day. <\/p>\n\n

\u201cThis is the type of work I\u2019d like to do more often,\u201d Branning said.<\/p>\n\n

The no-dig HDPE Snap-Tite culvert-lining pipe, which has patented male\/female machining at each end of the HDPE, is \u2018snapped\u2019 together, piece-by-piece, and pushed into the full length of an existing pipe. Any annular space and voids between the old culvert and new liner are filled in with grout. <\/p>\n\n

The pipe liner is available in lengths from two feet to 50 feet, and is available for culverts with diameters from eight inches to 84 inches. Snap-Tite also meets American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) Standard M326 for rehabilitating culverts. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
