LOUISVILLE, Kentucky – Advocates Professional Golf Association (APGA) Tour golfer Marcus Byrd, a member of Team ISCO Golf since 2021, will proudly wear the ISCO logo as he competes in the PGA Tour’s Genesis Invitational, February 16-19 at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, California, and again the following week at the Honda Classic at the PGA National Resort & Spa Champion Course in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Competing in his second and third PGA Tour events, Byrd will tee off on Thursday at 11:30 ET, and at 4:30 on Friday in the Genesis Invitational as the recipient of the 2023 Charlie Sifford Memorial Exemption. Awarded annually at the tournament since it was established in 2009, the unrestricted exemption is named after Charlie Sifford, who became the first African-American to join the PGA Tour in 1961. The recipient is a player who represents the advancement of diversity in golf.
ISCO CEO Jimmy Kirchdorfer, a member of the Kentucky Golf Hall of Fame, competed in a Pro-Am at Valhalla during an APGA event in 2021 where he met Byrd and began supporting his dream of competing on the PGA Tour.
“I was immediately taken by Marcus’s incredible story, his personality, and his passion for the game of golf,” Kirchdorfer said. “It made it an easy decision early in his career to bring Marcus aboard as a brand ambassador for ISCO. I’m so excited to see him take these next steps in his professional golf journey.”
The Genesis Invitational is hosted by Tiger Woods who announced Byrd as the exemption recipient.
“Marcus has shown resiliency and perseverance in pursuit of a professional playing career. These are qualities that remind me of Charlie and his journey. I look forward to watching Marcus compete at Riviera,” Woods noted.
Byrd, the 2019 Conference USA Golfer of the Year and three-time APGA event champion, will be one of the 144 golfers competing at the Honda Classic by virtue of an exemption he received from winning the APGA Tour’s Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines the last weekend in January.
In addition to Byrd, Team ISCO Golf includes Brendon Doyle, Max Mehles, Cooper Mussleman, Sophia Popov, Ben Silverman, Stephen Stallings Jr., Josh Teater and Jared Wolfe as brand ambassadors. You can follow their progress on Twitter and Instagram(@TeamISCOGolf).
