Putting the Squeeze on HDPE Repairs

How the C2400 is changing the game for large diameter repairs.

In the heart of the oil and natural gas-rich Permian basin near Midland, Texas, a high-density polyethylene (HDPE) water pipeline had been gouged by a third party.

The damage was significant enough that the integrity of the 24-inch IPS DR9 pipeline had been compromised. A repair was necessary.

This is where ISCO and Footage Tools swooped in and did a superhero landing (IYKYK).

Prior to this type of heroism, and traditionally speaking, a water line repair of this scale meant a complete shut down before a repair could be made.

So what sort of caped crusader has been unleashed on the world of HDPE pipeline repairs?

Meet the Footage Tools C2400 Hydraulic Squeeze Off Tool – Clark Kent by day.

If you prefer the costumed version of Superman – meet: The SQUEEZE BOSS.

Footage Tools describes it as, “the strongest squeeze tool on the globe, delivering 791 tons of force for precision pipeline control.”

For the first time, larger diameter HDPE pipelines can be repaired more quickly and efficiently, saving time and money.

ISCO collaborated with Footage, WL Plastics, and the contractor – 3S Services to rejuvenate the produced water system.

The SQUEEZE BOSS shuts off flow by squeezing the pipe. The momentous occasion was the first time this procedure was performed on a 24-inch DR9 HDPE pipeline in the field. Despite being squeezed shut, the muscle memory of HDPE allows it to return to its original form without damage once the tool is removed.

With ISCO field technicians on site, a McElroy T630i fusion machine was used in the trench to perform the butt fusion repair to replace the gouged section of the pipeline.

Through ingenuity, technology, and collaboration, this action marked a milestone in the future of large-diameter HDPE pipe repair.

This process puts you into your own personal Fortress of Solitude by preserving the two most detrimental assets in the world of construction: time and money. And you don’t even need a phone booth.
