You Say You Want a Resolution? Why Infrastructure Projects Can’t Afford Re-Solutions

HDPE infrastructure piping system designed for long-term performance.

Did you break yours yet?

New Year’s resolutions, that is.

The second Friday of January is known as Quitter’s Day—the point when nearly 80% of resolutions are abandoned. If that sounds familiar, you’re not alone.

What strikes me is that a resolution is technically a re-solution, solving the same problem again.

This is not an ideal path to take.

In infrastructure and long, multi-phase pipe projects, re-solving means added risk, added disruption, and most importantly, added cost.

Re-Solving Is the Most Expensive Outcome in Infrastructure

In large-scale infrastructure projects, a “do-over” isn’t just inefficient, it’s avoidable.

Re-solving can mean:

  • Additional excavation or rehabilitation
  • Service interruptions
  • Schedule overruns
  • Budget escalation
  • Reduced public and stakeholder confidence

While ISCO absolutely embraces and excels at re-solving a problem (see slip-lining, culvert relining, and pipe bursting) we aim to help customers avoid needing those fixes in the first place.

Because the best project outcome is one that doesn’t require revisiting decades later.

What We Mean by a True Solution

When we talk about solutions, we mean two things:

1. A comprehensive project solution. Not just pipe.
A solution isn’t a single project. It’s a fully supported system that includes:

  • CAD drawings and technical support
  • Prefabricated spools, fittings, structures
  • Fusion equipment and qualified field technicians
  • Training, field services, and project support

The goal is simple: SOLVE the problem completely.

2. A solution designed to last.
HDPE piping systems are engineered for long-term performance.

With corrosion resistance, flexibility, and a service life measured in generations, HDPE allows owners and operators to build infrastructure they won’t need to re-solve years down the road, unless they’re building onto it.

That’s what long-term value looks like.

Where Long-Term Performance Isn’t Optional

From ISCO’s start in golf course irrigation to today’s work across:

  • Regional and rural water
  • Landfills and environmental infrastructure
  • Data centers and industrial utilities
  • Oil and gas, stormwater, drainage, and mining

HDPE pipe solutions continue to evolve alongside the demands placed on modern infrastructure.

You’ll find HDPE solutions in places where long-term performance isn’t optional—from snow-making systems at ski areas to floating wetlands at the National Aquarium in Baltimore, and critical energy applications where uptime and reliability matter every day.

A Better Resolution

When January 2027 rolls around, maybe the better resolution isn’t fixing the same problem again.

Maybe it’s planning a solution that doesn’t need to be re-solved at all.
